April-June 2016

April-June 2016
DATES: Sundays 3 April, 1 May, 5 June
TIME: 6:30 p.m.
Entrance free of charge

On the first Sunday of each month at 6:30 p.m., the CGAC will be holding a philo café in the cafeteria.

Café philos are public conversations open to anyone interested in discussing philosophical concerns and points of view from any discipline or level of knowledge.

The sessions will be directed by Celso Fernández Sanmartín (philosopher, poet and storyteller) using a work of art belonging to the CGAC Collection as a starting topic.

Once a month a work of art will come out of the museum’s collection to join us in our debate and discussion, just like any other participant, while we enjoy a cup of coffee.

The selected artwork will serve as a take-off point for the conversation. But the conversation will not be about art or not just art, but rather it will encompass any topic suggested by the piece on many levels –conceptual, formal or superficial. The conversation may revolve around science, gastronomy, politics, music, philosophy, cinema, aesthetics, current events, etc., anything from the mundane to the sublime, inviting everyone to give his or her opinion and thoughts on issues that crop up spontaneously.

Celso Fernández Sanmartín

According to my family, I was born in Lalín one day in September of 1969 and the papers confirm this. From then on my recollections are of my grandfather teaching me how to plant a garden, my grandmother cooling the embers in the palm of her hand…; my first day of school, a tough experience; the university in Santiago with philosophy, a fruitful period, magnetized by the plastic arts and anthropology; by poetry, vast and infinite; work experience as a monitor for the elderly at a nursing home, intense, and as always I have been a lover of storytelling, now I am a teller of everything else.
