SERIES OF CONCERTS. MUSIC AND ART 2016

May-December 2016

SERIES OF CONCERTS. MUSIC AND ART 2016

The CGAC in collaboration with USC presents the sixth edition of the series Música y arte. Correspondencias sonoras. The music and art of our times come together and offer a space for all contemporary creative expression. The aim of the project is to promote the most avant-garde aesthetics, the most outstanding composers from the new musical scene and the most interesting perspectives for development of new music. Curated by Vertixe Sonora, new authors from the international scene have composed original works from exhibitions, authors, and works from the Centro Galego de Arte Contemporánea.

Once again, the series begins with the celebration of the International Museum Day. This year, Vertixe Sonora is participating in the event by sharing three of the group's latest works composed by Elena Rykova (Russia, 1991), Andrés Nuño de Buen (Mexico, 1988) and Murat Çolak (Turkey, 1984).

On the occasion of the exhibition Grouping_Ungrouping: Breaks in representation, a direct dialogue will be established between the artists, whose works are exhibited as part of the centre's collection, and five composers. Henrik Denerin (Sweden, 1978), Eduardo Flores (Ecuador, 1960), Iván Ferrer (Mexico, 1976), Ivo Nilson (Sweden, 1966) and José Subía (Ecuador, 1985) will their voices to the artists María Ruido, Simón Pacheco, Pamen Pereira, Jorge Barbi and Carme Nogueira, while Vertixe Sonora will adapt the original sound track of The Soul of O. Nermaud, composed by Isaac Pérez Vicente, and which was included in his film MACHINES À RR.

Out of all the artists represented in the exhibition Rereading The Collection, Vertixe Sonora focuses on the figure of Louise Bourgeoise and on the micro exhibition States of Exception, which revolves around pieces by Johan Grimonprez and Thomas Ruff linked to terrorist bombings such as 9/11, or the photographs of border fences in Ceuta and Melilla taken by Xavier Ribas representing monuments to inequality. We will thus have five new works by the composers Michelle Agnes (Brazil, 1979),  Helga Arias (Spain, 1984), Joan Bagés i Rubí (Spain, 1977), Carlos de Castellarnau (Spain, 1977) and Facundo N. Llompart (Argentina, 1979).

The retrospective exhibition of the work by the artist Eva Lootz in the nineteen-seventies and eighties will be like a reference for the five composers of the series' final concert: Heather B. Frasch (United States, 1980), Piyawat Louilarpprasert (Thailand), Abel Paúl (Spain, 1984), Javier Quislant (Spain, 1984) and Octavi Rumbau (Spain, 1980).

As on previous editions, the series will turn the CGAC into a centre for research and musical creation with intense work sessions between Vertixe Sonora and the composers during sessions that are open to the public and will include the previous rehearsals and conversations with the composers.
