EXPERIMENTAL WORKSHOPS IN MODERN ARCHITECTURE. MIES IS +

28 January - 2 July 2017

EXPERIMENTAL WORKSHOPS IN MODERN ARCHITECTURE. MIES IS +

MANIFEST, IMAGINE, EXPERIMENT, SENSE!

Architect Fermín Blanco will use the Sistema Lupo teaching method to offer a workshop series for children. The aim is to provide boys and girls with the keys needed for them to interpret modern architecture through the legacy of the most important figures in this field of our time.

Architect David Antuña and educators Rebeca Mariño and Santiago Chenlo will introduce the participants to the fascinating world of modern architecture. Each workshop will be dedicated to the study of one of the most representative artists belonging to the different generations of architects from the avant-garde movements to the present, and will take into account the philosophy of each individual creator.

Games will be an essential part of all the sessions. The Sistema Lupo, which includes both material and contents, will be used. This teaching method consists of a number of modular parts that allow for many different possible combinations, shapes, proportions, balancing games and action strategies. It is an experimental educational system that promotes individual reflection and creativity as well as team work through the dynamics of large-scale construction.

The methodology includes a theoretical part, in which we will approach the figure and ideas of each architect, followed by a series of construction challenges.

This second set of workshops, that will continue to be held on the last weekend of each month, will address the rigour of Mies van der Rohe, the word by Rem Koolhas, the leisure side of Charles and Ray Eames, the visionary work of Richard Buckminster Fuller, the social calling of Alison and Peter Smithson and the rhythm, sentiment and sense of community of Lina Bo Bardi in their architectural production.
