MUSIC AND ART. SOUND CORRESPONDENCES 2017

19 May - 19 December 2017

MUSIC AND ART. SOUND CORRESPONDENCES 2017

Catálogos de sopro, respiración e asubío, an obsessive and recurring study of the diffusion of air by the composer Ramón Souto (Spain, 1976). This is the start of the new edition of Music and Art. Sound Correspondences to mark International Museum Day, an encounter between the music and art of our time, which is open to all current creative expression in order to raise awareness about the most advanced aesthetics, the most important composers on the new music scene and the most interesting development prospects for new music.

Curated by Vertixe Sonora, new writers on the international scene composing original works based on the exhibitions, authors and works of the Galician Centre for Contemporary Art. Jorge Gómez Elizondo (Mexico, 1986), Chikage Imai (Japan, 1979), Heather Stebbins (US, 1987) and Joanna Wozny (Poland, 1973) will take as a reference the retrospective exhibition of the artist from Seville, Luis Gordillo, hosted by the CGAC, focusing on strong points and moments of his extensive production. Vertixe Sonora offers composers a new formation in the season, a quintet with saxophone, tuba, electric guitar, piano, percussion and electronics.

A string quartet and a quartet with flute, saxophone, piano and percussion will be the tools used by Oren Boneh (USA/Israel, 1991), Francisco Concha Goldschmidt (Chile, 1981), Macarena Sofia Roscmanich Le Roy (Chile, 1981) and Chris Swithinbank (Netherlands, 1988) to decipher the work of Eduardo Batarda based on the "concerns emanating from the processes of concealment or the iconoclastic exhibition of the image" in the exhibition Mise en Abyme

In the fourth concert of the season, Paul Clift (Australia, 1978), Stefan Maier (Canada, 1990), Szymon Stanislaw Strzelec (Poland, 1990) and Dam Tramte (US, 1985) will focus on the work of Alvaro Black, on his obsessions and reflections throughout his career. With the soprano Maribeth Diggle, an instrumental and electronic trio, Vertixe Sonora closes the season of the 2017 edition with a total of 12 first worldwide premieres and the presence of composers from Australia, Canada, Chile, US, Netherlands, Israel, Mexico, Poland, UK and Japan.

As in previous editions, the season will turn the CGAC into a centre of musical research and creation with intense work sessions between Vertixe Sonora and the composers in workshops open to the public, including rehearsals and talks with authors of the pieces.
