ARTIST`S WORKSHOP WITH FERMÍN JIMENEZ LANDA: DOING THINGS TWICE

16 July - 20 July 2018

ARTIST`S WORKSHOP WITH FERMÍN JIMENEZ LANDA: DOING THINGS TWICE

The workshop consists of repeating a series of artworks in order to live experiences that only the author has lived and that we, fellow artists, are not entitled to out of respect for authorship, and for the reason that they have already been done once. The artworks are simple in terms of execution, simple in structure, and cheap.

They were there, as though they were crouching, waiting to be taken down, and it could have happened to us but, for our misfortune, it didn’t happen like that. Nevertheless, the spark set off by having them at our fingertips is what produces a strange sense of delight when we see them for the first time.

For a few days we can forget our egos, our prejudices and we will lose our respect for some artists, using their artworks as scores. We will work using a different medium than the one used in the actual creation, regaining the model of collective artistic creations.

Giving the artwork a second life enables us to relive in first person an outsider’s thoughts on daily life and rituals, all that is temporary, shifting, and the possibilities art has of encroaching on reality, relationships and tensions between images, words and ideas, the idea of the potential, the latent, or the absent, minimal gestures, sculptural attention, conventions and the limits of the public space and coexistence in the cities.

Every day, short sessions of viewing of referents, own work and short video pieces will be interspersed with the main body of the workshop that will be put into practice in the public space.

 Fermín Jiménez Landa

FERMÍN JIMENEZ LANDA (Pamplona, 1979)

Performing actions, public interventions, video, installations or drawing, he works in processes of equivalence, reversal and exchange that make us see reality from a point half-way between the absurd and the sensible, the endearing and the iconoclastic, the empirical and the unverifiable.

His projects and exhibitions include the following: Bamboleo de Chandler (Nogueras Blanchard, Barcelona, 2017), El rayo verde (La Gallera, Valencia, 2016), Turno de noche (Artium, Vitoria, 2015), Las puertas (La Casa Encendida, Madrid, 2012), Amikejo (Laboratorio 987, MUSAC, León 2011), Actos oficiales (Espai Montcada, CaixaForum, Barcelona, 2008); and his collective exhibitions include When Animals Talked to Humans (Galería Travesía Cuatro, Madrid, 2018), Manifesta 11 (Zúrich, 2016), Generaciones 2015 (La Casa Encendida, Madrid, 2015), Sin motivo aparente, CA2M (Madrid, 2013).
