Due to high demand and after a period characterised by virtual events, the programme Art in the Classroom is returning in a face-to-face format with a course previously given online in 2021: Contemporary Artists as a Starting Point to Develop Educational Initiatives.

Contemporary art has entered the classrooms as a mainstay of learning, but commonly it’s through the work of artists like Picasso, Miró, Van Gogh or Kandinsky. Figures that are important, without a doubt, but also far removed from our time, failing to address certain cross-cutting topics present in the field of education, such as a connection with everyday life, equality or sustainability.

Frequently in the classroom, work focused on a particular artist means getting to know the character and emulating their style of painting. This course is about going a step further and taking a look at the world of art as a source of inspiration when creating rich and globalised educational experiences.

This is an intensive course to be carried out in one session, offering teachers an opportunity to observe, reflect and experiment through art before bringing their initiatives into the classroom, living the experience and turning it into a starting point for building the programme.

The goals of this course are to engage with contemporary art as a learning resource, forging links between art and the classroom and tearing down myths and prejudices; to reflect on the possibilities for globalised learning art provides; to develop the capacity to observe, discover, create and debate on art; and to generate creative dynamics within oneself to encourage them in the students, using the work of all contemporary artists as a cornerstone.
