ART AS A PLATFORM FOR EQUALITY. WOMEN ARTISTS. Face-to-Face and Online Educational Sessions for Secondary, Sixth Form and Vocational Education Students

03 October 2025 - 28 June 2026

This programme aims to connect schools with contemporary art and to foster young people’s engagement with the artistic practices of their time.

These themed sessions introduce cross-curricular subjects such as ecology, equality, identity and migration, supporting students in exploring and understanding the world around them through artistic practice.

Delivered both in person and online, the sessions consider art as a catalyst for change, focusing on artists whose work engages with questions of equality.

Drawing on a wide range of media, materials and approaches, the programme explores artistic practices that address themes including gender, equality, motherhood, and the role of women in society and art history. Why have so many women artists been excluded from dominant historical narratives? Alongside key historical figures such as Artemisia Gentileschi, participants will encounter the work of artists including Judy Chicago, Birgit Jürgenssen, Ana Mendieta, Mónica Mayer and Barbara Kruger.

The sessions invite participants to consider how art can shape critical thinking and contribute to a more equitable society, both within and beyond the museum.

Groups visiting CGAC will also take part in a practical workshop connected to the themes explored during the session.
