23 January 2024 - 14 May 2024
Carmen Hermo Martínez and Virginia Villar
Xacobe Martínez Antelo

Coinciding in space and time with the staging of the forthcoming temporary exhibitions at the CGAC, Ensemble Liberdade will carry out a musical residency project based on the idea of construction and creation in progress.

The programme will begin with a concert for concrete mixer aimed at all audiences and will conclude with a series of didactic concerts designed for children and adults, respectively.

Ensemble Liberdade was created as a small section of the Orquestra Galega de Liberación, to delve more deeply into its line of work. Ensemble Liberdade uses avant-garde techniques such as sound painting to compose musical material in real time, using improvisation as raw material and seeking new contexts in which to deconstruct the most frequent compositional uses. A powerful and current example of the contemporary music scene and of how it is still possible to innovate in the field of sound and musical experimentation.

The members of this chamber group, composed of a string quartet, wind trio and percussion, are: Elena Vázquez, violín; María José Pámpano, viola; Macarena Montesinos, cello; Saúl Puga, double bass; Diego Alonso, soprano saxophone; Xosé Miguélez, tenor saxophone and Galician bagpipes; Javier Pereiro, trumpet; LAR Legido, drums and percussion; Xacobe Martínez Antelo, conductor.

23rd January and 6th February | Places: 250 | Free admission until full capacity is reached

Tuesday 23rd January | 8:00 p.m. Concert for Concrete Mixer and Ensemble, composed in real time and performed by LAR Legido and Ensemble Liberdade.

Tuesday 6th February | 8:00 p.m. Immediate Concert for Waste and Ensemble, composed in real time and performed by Ensemble Liberdade.

The programme of open concerts seeks to bring contemporary and avant-garde music closer to all audiences, bearing witness to the infinite paths that this discipline opens up. Diverse, unprecedented and entertaining paths, in pursuit of musical and performance excellence, and also of the liberating processes of the artists who follow them. The work of Ensemble Liberdade, a small, advanced group of the Orquestra Galega de Liberación, provides the audience with an immersive and unique experience.

13th and 14th May

This programme will be presented in two formats: two concerts especially aimed at children and one concert designed for adults.

These sessions will cover, in an entertaining, practical and participative way, active listening, the possibilities facing contemporary composition and the listeners’ processes of judgement.

Artists and listeners will go hand in hand into the marvellous world of possible types of music, asking ourselves questions such as: What is music and what is not? Why do we like some types of music and not others? Where is the music I need and how can I find it? Is some music too complex? Is some music too simple? Is there good music and bad music?
