Once again the celebration of International Museum Day will serve to launch the series, Music and Art. Sound Correspondences is a meeting point for the music and art of our times—a place that welcomes all of today’s creative expressions, and offers the public an experience to become familiar with the most progressive aesthetic trends, the most outstanding composers on the new music scene and the most interesting perspectives for the development of new music.
The trademark of the concert series is the creation of music inspired by the exhibitions on show at the CGAC. The latest edition includes educational activities with general rehearsals open to school children and specific activities for music students, as well as the rehearsals customarily open to the public and conversations with the composers.
In this series of eighty world premieres curated by Vertixe Sonora thus far, the 2018 edition includes thirteen new works by composers from Germany, Argentina, Canada, Colombia, Spain, the United States, Israel, Italy, Mexico and Russia.
The series will start with a concert of ‘magnetic’ force that uses theatrical and visual elements through the works of Teresa Treccozzi (Italia, 1981) and Giovanni Santini (Italia, 1986).
The Palace of the Three Stories by artist Carlos Garaicoa, who contemplates ‘cities, architecture and underlying dreams,’ will serve as an inspiration to composers Hache Costa (Spain, 1980), Leonardo Idrobo (Colombia, 1977), Valentín Pelisch (Argentina, 1983) and Jacques Zafra (Mexico, 1986), included in the second concert.
The relationships between the concept series memory/history/past and landscape/place/geographies found in the exhibition Geography of Time by artists Bleda and Rosa are the references for the compositions by Victoria Cheah (United States, 1988), Bien Davis (United States, 1992), Marta Gentilucci (Italy, 1973) and Or Shemesh (Israel/Germany, 1981), which will be premiered in the third concert.
Lesley Hinger (Canada, 1983), Dariya Maminova (Russia, 1988), Christian Märkl (Germany, 1979) and Daniel James Miller (United States, 1989) are the composers invited to participate in the fourth concert, inspired by the Portuguese artist Julião Sarmento, and which will close the series of this 2018 edition.
