During the 2016-2018 biennial, the Teatro Real is celebrating the bicentennial of its foundation and the 20th anniversary of its reopening by taking opera out into the streets with broadcasts of the theatre’s own productions at institutions as well as cultural and art centres throughout Spain. Performances will also be shown on screens placed in plazas, streets and other public places.
On July 14 the opera I Puritani will be broadcast live via satellite and the Internet in public spaces as part of the activities planned for Opera Week.
CGAC will join this initiative and broadcast the performance of I Puritani, on July 14 at 8:00 pm.
I PURITANI

Libretto by Carlo Pepoli, based on the play Têtes rondes et cavaliers (1833) by Jacques-François Ancelot Jacques-Xavier Saintine.

This was the last opera composed by Bellini, who died prematurely at the age of 34, after having won great acclaim from the Parisian society. Moreover, in a musical scenario dominated by Italians, he was finally commissioned to compose a historical work in which he develops an intense love story marked by passion, betrayal and madness against the backdrop of the English Civil War which pitted Cromwell and the Puritans against the Royalists. The opera focuses on a classic romantic heroine, Elvira, who has been betrayed by her fiancé on her wedding day. This causes her such pain and unbearable suffering that she is driven to the brink of madness.
