BREATHING ART. YOGA SESSIONS IN THE CGAC
The aim of this programme is to promote and facilitate a dialogue between the public and contemporary art using yoga as a tool for mediation.
Throughout the year, we will be holding a series of yoga sessions framed within the CGAC’s temporary exhibitions, the suggestive architectural spaces that contain them and the natural spaces of Bonaval park, designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira and the architect and landscape artist Isabel Aguirre.
Each class will be created ad hoc, so that the theme of the yoga sequences and the asanas (body postures) will be directly linked to the artworks, the architecture or the landscape.
Each asana has an exact geometric and architectonic shape. It consists of a symbolic language which also appears frequently in the art world. This activity combines the symbolism of yoga with the symbolism of art and with the places its contemplation takes us.
Paula Toimil will conduct a guided tour of the exhibitions, gleaning inspiration from concepts, shapes, colours, dimensions, matter or light in order to transfer these parameters to our bodies and invite the public to experience art physically, emotionally and spiritually.
We will turn our attention towards our inner selves through breathing and postures, in search of an exercise in listening inward that enables us to learn both about art and ourselves.
