CLAUDIO ZULIAN. WE READ TIME IN SPACE AND IN THE VOICE I. Artist's Workshop
A city is a complex organism. People with very different cultures, public or residential spaces that have changed over various periods of use, political or social struggles that reflect their tensions in the urban planning and architecture, the natural history of the place, the history of the world and global influences—they all shape the city and the life inhabiting it. Approaching it means, above all, abandoning all prejudices. An exercise that’s more difficult that it seems, because even our eyes are full of them: there are some details of the buildings we don’t see, because we don’t consider them important.
For all these reasons, a city is a huge culture-making device and, in this regard, no approaches are neutral, rather they immediately become part of the very life of the city.
To give concrete meaning to all these questions, in this workshop we will focus on the San Pedro neighbourhood of Santiago, next to the CGAC.
For four days, based on the experiences of the artist Claudio Zulian in the different cities and in line with the profile of the participants, we’ll carry out some exercises in reading and listening to the neighbourhood, and explore possible paths of concrete cultural production, whether artistic, academic or socio-political.
