THE INTRAHISTORY OF ARCHITECTURE III. History of Achitecture Course Online

In this third course on the intrahistory of architecture, we will approach new subjects and we will further explore others already covered in previous editions. Using architecture as the cornerstone, we will embark on a transdisciplinary approach to art, culture, politics, history, crafts, economy, aesthetics and education.

We will pay special attention to the material. Glass, wood, ceramics or steel and their processes of transformation and craft or industrial creation will be this year’s protagonists. Visual language, so present our days, will also be the focus of analysis and debate.

We will talk of anonymous architecture and the concept of authorship. We will submerge into ‘hellscrapers’ and we will rise up in steel giants. We will approach light, colour, transparency, skeletons and skins. We will address the ever-suggestive, but at times difficult, integration of the arts, creativity and social commitment of a discipline whose ability to influence our lives goes far beyond the constructed piece.

METODOLOGY

In this course we will explore the conceptual bases of architecture over ten sessions, combining the presentation of the different items on the programme run by Fermín Blanco with the participation of our guests from different professional disciplines.

The topics chosen will cut across several disciplinary fields. We will try to encourage the participation of a diverse audience of people who are interested in architecture but are not specifically experts in the field.

FERMÍN BLANCO (La Pola, Asturias, 1977) has a PhD in architecture from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and a degree in architecture from ETSAVA (Valladolid School of Architecture).  His professional career is characterised by the educational and informative nature of his projects, always in a hybrid interdisciplinary context. Since 2011, he has been a lecturer of Construction Systems at the IE School of Architecture and Design. He started his professional experience with the architect Manuel Gallego (2003-2006) and since 2006 he has been practising his profession in his own studio in A Coruña. During these years he has held exhibitions and given courses and conferences related to architecture, design and teaching methods. In 2008, he founded Sistema LUPO, an umbrella concept currently sheltering an excellent team of professionals involved in the architecture-education tandem. His award-winning doctoral dissertation ‘Los huesos de Fisac: la búsqueda de la pieza ideal,’ marked the start of a series of scientific-informative projects on the transfer of knowledge from technology and art to society. He currently coordinates, among other things, the programmes Nenoarquitectura, at the Fundación Luís Seoane in Corunna, and MIES é + at the CGAC. He is also co-founder of the Ludantia Arquitectura y Educación association.

TARGET GROUP

The lessons are aimed at students, teachers and the general public interested in the history of architecture and art history.

The registration period will be open from 2 March to 5 April 2021. Anybody interested can send an e-mail to cgac.educacion@xunta.gal indicating their full name, ID number, studies, field of work or interest, an e-mail address and a contact phone number. Each applicant will receive a confirmation e-mail and precise payment instructions.

CERTIFICATION

The CGAC will award a certificate to those persons who attend at least 75% of the sessions.
