KALEIDOSCOPE. Contemporary Music Sessions
Organised by the Auditorium of Galicia - Compostela Cultura, the City Council of Santiago, the Galician Centre for Contemporary Art (CGAC) and the University of Santiago de Compostela, with the financial support of the Provincial Council of Corunna, the Contemporary Music Sessions bring a ‘kaleidoscope’ of sounds and artistic proposals to Compostela.
From 5 to 20 June, the cycle revisits its annual event with avant-garde music from the 20th and 21st centuries and the dialogue between contemporary artists, ensembles and creations. The city becomes once again a stage for the residency of the National Youth Orchestra of Spain, which will offer five concerts accompanied by Ensemble Modern and Trío Arbós in the Auditorium of Galicia. The programme is rounded off with the performances by the Municipal Music Band of Santiago de Compostela, Ensemble Liberdade and the dance company Lookathingsdifferent to the beat of the live music of Nico Casal.
PROGRAMME IN THE CGAC
On this occasion, Ensemble Liberdade will incorporate for the first time two new elements that break with the sonority of a chamber music ensemble. The electric guitar of Manuel Cebrián and the versatile voice of Rubén Fernández will be joining the violin of Elena Vázquez, the viola of María José Pámpano, the cello of Macarena Montesinos, the drums of LAR Legido, the saxes and the bagpipe of Diego Alonso and Xosé Miguélez, and the trumpet of Javier Pereiro, to put together a show that surrenders us to the sonic exuberance and reveals the infinite possibilities of music.
ENSEMBLE LIBERDADE is the guerrilla formation of the Orquestra Galega de Liberación, led by Xacobe Martínez Antelo. This is a musical project that draws its prime inspiration from improvisation and whose main task is researching how to transcend musical frontiers and reveal new paths and escape routes that open up before us.
