Legacies. Spaces for the Care of Contemporary Creations is a project born from a shared concern within the contemporary art sector about the future of the legacies of senior artists, as well as the economic and legal circumstances that often surround this group. In collaboration with the DIDAC Foundation, the CGAC is hosting a working session that aims to bring this debate into the Galician context, examine the specific characteristics of the local artistic landscape, and open up a space for dialogue on the future of contemporary artists’ legacies and archives.

The initiative, led by the Gabeiras Foundation, addresses the need to safeguard, manage, and pass on contemporary artistic heritage. It offers a framework for reflection and concrete proposals through a sociological study and a legal report produced in collaboration with Gabeiras & Asociados.

Following presentations in September 2023 at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, in April 2024 at the Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona (MACBA), and in July of the same year at the Russian Museum in Málaga, the project now enters its second phase. This new stage broadens its scope to include the performing arts and music, incorporating the study and preservation of choreographic, lyrical, and musical archives from an interdisciplinary perspective.
