Begoña Paz, Iciar Ezquieta

Our educational workshops for children aged 6 to 11 are back this summer.

The goal of this programme is to bring children closer to contemporary art through leisure. Participants will be able to learn different tools and strategies for creating, as well as reflect on the world around them and experience it through art.

Begoña Paz and Iciar Ezquieta, both artists and teachers, will conduct several workshops revolving around the current exhibitions in the CGAC.

In the first workshop we will get to see and learn about the exhibition Paths I, a selection of works by artists that create and reflect on the act of walking, strolling, exploring, contemplating or wandering using different media such as video, photography, painting, sculpture and installation art.

For the second workshop, our starting point will be the exhibition Carles Fontserè and Camilo José Cela. Nueva York amarga, related to photography, the city, the human landscape and literature. This exhibition will work as a reference from which we will develop our own stories and artistic creations.

The activities will be carried out in different spaces of the architecture of Álvaro Siza Vieira and its surroundings, such as the building’s rooftop and the gardens of the Bonaval park.

We’re going for a walk

From 6 to 9 July

Time: from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Age: 6 to 8 years

Number of places: 10

In this workshop we will use the leisure activity of going out for a walk as a way of nurturing the children’s attention.

Our aim is to put into practice concepts such as inventing, questioning, learning, presenting, expressing, collecting, capturing, reflecting… in order to approach the artistic processes and procedures used by some of the artists in the exhibition Paths I. We will come in contact with drawing and graphic experimentation, with the different shapes, textures, colours and smells, and with natural and urban environments.

We will explore the activity of going out for a walk as the act of walking for pleasure, without a fixed destination, and we will carry out collaborative activities in which creation and dialogue stem from each individual's sensory experience of our environment.

From 13 to 16 July

Time: from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Age: 9 to 11 years

Number of places: 10

This workshop will aim to motivate a creative dialogue between the children in order to develop their own visual narrative.

Our starting point will involve a selection of photographs from the exhibition Carles Fontserè and Camilo José Cela. Nueva York amarga to create a fictional story by means of the different languages in visual arts, such as collage, visual compositions, words through images, the creation of volumes or the art of scenography as a game of representation.
