MIES É +. Experimental Workshops on Contemporary Architecture 2020-2021
The CGAC presents the sixth edition of this series of workshops for children on modern architecture. And as per usual, we will close the programme with a workshop for families.
The workshops, to be held on the last weekend of every month, will be run by the architect and educator Fermín Blanco with the support of the Sistema Lupo teaching staff. The aim is to provide children with the necessary tools and keys to interpret contemporary architecture through the theories, projects and works of the most important architects of recent times.
The Sistema Lupo opts for an active, experimental teaching system using a combination of theory and practice where play is the true binding force of a cooperative creative dynamic.
The subjects will be addressed using a cross-cutting approach with architecture as the guiding thread. With the help of different authors, we will immerse ourselves in creative worlds through their thoughts.
The educational project is based on generating didactics and designing resources using all kinds of materials (wood, plastic sheets, sponge, clay, synthetic mixes, etc.), in addition to exploring the immaterial world—which opens up many possible combinations, forms, proportions, balancing games and action strategies. The dynamic process suggested encourages individual creation and reflection, as well as teamwork through games and large-scale construction.
In this edition, we will delve into the thoughts of the great pioneers, placing special emphasis on our women pioneers. We will journey between the manifestos of Scott Brown and the art-industry connections of Gropius, supported by active and experimental education methodologies. The applied arts will be given special prominence in this edition, accompanied by Margaret Macdonald, and the artistic vision will be brought by the team formed by Christo and Jeanne-Claude, and the work of Yona Friedman. The February and March workshops are, therefore, our personal tribute to two great talents who recently passed away. Finally, we will address the practice of co-design based on the experiences of Stanley King and Susan Chung in Vancouver, and we will close the annual programme with a family workshop on the artistic activism and commitment to child-centredness of Palle Nielsen.

A maximum of two participants may register through each application. The places will be filled in order of registration. Applicants will receive an e-mail notification.
