MIES IS +. Experimental Workshop in Modern Architecture 2019-2020

The CGAC presents the fifth edition of this cycle of workshops on contemporary architecture aimed at children.This year we will close the programme with a workshop aimed at families.

The workshops, which will take place the last weekend of each month, will be run by the architect Fermín Blanco, with the support of the Sistema Lupo teaching team.The goal is to provide the children with tools and skills needed to interpret present-day architecture through the theories, projects and works of the most important architects of recent times.The themes will be addressed transversally using architecture as a guiding thread and featuring different figures from the world of architecture to introduce us into creative worlds through their thoughts.

The Lupo System is committed to active, experimental didactics, a blend of theory and practice, where play is the linchpin of a collective creative momentum in which construction is the key area of research.The practical parts are developed from a series of modular pieces that allow for many different possible combinations, shapes, proportions, balance games and action strategies.The dynamics proposed aim to encourage both individual reflection and creativity, and teamwork through games and large-scale construction.

BALKRISHNA DOSHI. THE UNIVERSALITY OF THE LOCAL

ZAHA HADID. WE DECONSTRUCT OURSELVES AS A TEAM

The always controversial work of Hadid entails development in forms.We will analyse its evolution from the first theoretical projects to its last phase, where the work is fine-tuned by transforming itself into a unique and expressive architecture.

BRUNO ZEVI. THE LANGUAGE OF MODERN ARCHITECTURE

The writings of Bruno Zevi, master of the interpretation and analysis of architectural language, served as a bridge between the United States and Europe.Through his invariants of modern architecture, he created the basis for a new architecture where many authors found a light to guide them towards new times.

LILLY REICH. DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE

Furniture designer, creative, industrial design developer, active member of the Bauhaus movement and close associate of Mies van der Rohe (under whose shadow she remained for decades), the figure of Lilly Reich is being rediscovered in recent years; and the fact is, with Lilly, Mies is greater.

ALEJANDRO DE LA SOTA. BLOQUES LÓXICOS

De la Sota's work is tied to logical processes and the search for essence in architecture.An interest that he has developed throughout his career, trying to fine-tune answers to universal matters.Far away from quirks and exclusivity, he proposes an essential, serial and logical architecture.

WANG SHU E LU WENYU. REUSE. MORE LIVES THAN A CAT

The Chinese couple explore an architecture based on the recovery of materials.Immersed in a country in transformation, where scale becomes unfathomable and processes are accelerated, sometimes uncontrollably, their commitment to lengthen the life cycle of materials is an ethical stance, a manifesto in the times and circumstances in which they are living.
