NEXT STOOOOOP!... INDIA. Workshops for Families

Family workshops are back! This activity is designed so that families with children between the ages of 4 and 9 can enjoy and explore the world of contemporary art, developing and enhancing their creative skills.

This time, we’ve changed course and will dive into India to learn about its art and culture. We’ll create works with geometric patterns, transform maps and build new universes to travel to. We’ll also discover the potential of everyday objects and how to use them to give life to new works of art. We’ll marvel at the textures that nature offers us, we’ll experiment with our bodies and we’ll transform spaces with our interventions.

Subodh Gupta's work is an explosion of objects converted into art. This artist transforms everyday items (especially kitchen utensils such as frying pans and pots) into amazing sculptures. Inspired by his work, we’ll explore other uses for the objects that surround us. We’ll investigate their sounds, their functions, their possible relationships with our bodies and see how they can become impressive pieces of art in our object laboratory.

BODIES, CREATURES AND LIFE. BHARTI KHER

Registration: 5-15 February
Bharti Kher creates mythology-inspired art to speak of her culture and the relationships between people. Her sculptures often mix humans and animals, suggesting stories full of fantasy. In her abstract, colourful and mysterious paintings and compositions, she uses the bindi (traditional Indian dot above the eyebrow) as the main material. In this workshop we’ll intersperse images with coloured dots to create abstract compositions, make sculptures using fabrics and our own bodies, and create imaginary creatures.

Registration: 4-14 March
Jitish Kallat's works are like a visual journey through time and space. The universe, science, nature, life cycles and the moon are some of his favourite subjects. To learn more about his work we will look at some elements of the landscape, listen to how nature sounds and how we imagine it. We will also play with light and shadows through different experiments.

IMAGINES JOURNEYS. REENA SAINI KALLAT

Registration: 8-18 April
Reena Saini Kallat seeks to create a more just world through art by denouncing the differences in rights and freedoms that exist between different countries. To do this, she uses maps created with wires and cables that simulate barriers or borders, but which, in turn, want to create more fluid, connected and universal places. For the artist, nature is an example of communication and she uses it to merge animals and plants from different countries into a new common place. How is it possible to travel and achieve the union between different territories? Can you help us create new worlds with wool, fabrics, lights and natural elements?

SPACES IN TRANSFORMATION. SHEELA GOWDA

Registration: 29 April - 7 May
Through her installations, Sheela Gowda offers a unique perspective of her surroundings and tells us about the value that little things can have. She uses wood, thread and unusual materials such as hair and incense to awaken our senses through often abstract and colourful compositions. Inspired by their large installations, we will use recycled materials to transform the workshop space. We’ll try yarn painting and explore art with all five senses.

REGISTRATION

The workshops are free of charge. To participate, please send an e-mail message to cgac.educacion@xunta.gal, within the established deadlines. Your email should include the title of the activity in which you wish to register, the names of the participants, their ages, a telephone number and a contact e-mail address. Applications will only be accepted from those persons who are of the age indicated for each of the workshops. Spaces will be allocated on a first-come first-served basis. Each applicant will receive email confirmation.
