QUARK WORLD: QUANTIC DANCE. Dance and Science Workshop
The CGAC is collaborating with the San Pedro neighbourhood and the IGFAE in this hybrid workshop between contemporary dance and science.
Drawing from the Standard Model of particle physics, participants will investigate a series of elements using their bodies and movement.
The proposal seeks to represent the quantum field theory, which describes elementary particles and the interaction between them, as actions produced in dance, exploring the interconnection between both disciplines. Elementary particles are the smallest known building blocks and allow us to describe the universe.
We have designed this activity as a space in which bodies can express themselves as irreducible entities, where kinematics itself is governed by the fundamental interactions of the nuclear force, which takes us away from the classical physical contents described in dance.
For those interested, we propose a challenge consisting in exploring the limits of the body: Do you want to try and do a 720 degree turn? Fermions can, discover how!
LED BY
PAULA QUINTAS (Ourense, 1983) is a dancer, circus artist, choreographer, teacher and cultural manager. She has a master’s degree in performing arts from the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos and studies the limits and the intersections of the body arts within the Programme in Creation and Research in Contemporary Art at the Universidad de Vigo. Her work stands out for the dialogue between body and movement, generating a visual component. She will guide a body study of the mathematical models in the quantic world and will direct the participants in the creation of a dance show with the physical-theoretical contents of the workshop.
HÉCTOR ÁLVAREZ POL (Ribas de Sil, Lugo, 1972) is a lecturer in the Particle Physics Department at the Universidad de Santiago de Compostela and IGFAE researcher, and moves his body to the rhythm of tango. He will introduce the participants of the workshop to basic elements and the fundamental interactions of physics as central tools in the conversation with contemporary dance.
