Territory is a video exhibition that aims to bring the public closer to the particularities of the Central American art scene through 18 projections by artists from Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, and Panama.

Since the late nineteen-nineties, video has become a central tool, both in artistic debates and in the dissemination of works and practices by Central American artists among the various countries of the region and abroad. Within the Latin American context, the countries of the isthmus remain the least well-known, and their social and political realities continue to be among the most fragile and turbulent in the continent.

In this adverse and complex context, artistic and literary proposals have nonetheless emerged —some with a strong critical and activist character— that have been pioneering and have helped dismantle conventions and stereotypes.

Drawing from his personal experience in Central America, Santiago Olmo —curator of the exhibition together with Rossina Cazali— will present a cultural, social, and political reading of the region, based on his travels, curatorial projects, and encounters with local writers and artists. During his talk, he will review some of the books displayed in the cases that close the exhibition and will offer the audience suggestions for further exploring and discovering the richness of Central American artistic and literary production.
