ANTONI SOCÍAS. THEORY AND PRACTICE OF THE DESERT

The exhibition Theory and Practice of the Desert is a journey through the processes that are present in the work of Antoni Socias. Photography and painting, objects, installations and videos are linked through friction. His works reveal a preference for paradox and also for the absurd that subtly turn into latent social and political criticism from the point of view of lesser things, underlining the importance of attitudes in everyday routines.

JAVIER VALLHONRAT. INTERACTIONS

The Interactions project was undertaken in high mountainous areas and environments with extreme weather conditions. The artist worked in these settings to create images in which uncertainty and unpredictability clash and tussle with man’s need for control. The slow passage of time and the uncertain setting of high mountains arise in conditions that generate vulnerability. In such circumstances, our perception of the ecological and geoclimatic niche in mountainous regions as alien and threatening gradually transforms, and we observe a place that is equally vulnerable, where knowledge and direct experience interact in the presence of uncertainty.

ARISSA. THE SHADOW AND THE PHOTOGRAPHER. 1922-1936

The Shadow and the Photographer shows Arissa's evolution since pictorialism to the avant-garde New Vision movement, through a careful selection of over one hundred and fifty photographs taken between 1922 and 1936. These images speak to us of a photographer and his era, who participates in the medium's technological advances and new artistic trends by providing his own vision through the experiments carried out in the intimacy of his small workshop.

VAL DEL OMAR. THE MECHA-MYSTICS OF CINEMA

The work of José Val del Omar (Granada, 1904- Madrid, 1982) displays his facets as inventor, visual poet and cinemist. With this neologism, Val del Omar’s intention was to combine the activity of the alchemist with that of the film-maker, and as such define his original approach to cinema: via technological research and his own experimental aesthetics.

MANUEL VILARIÑO. TECTÓNICA

Tectónica is not just another Manuel Vilariño exhibition. What is proposed here is an exploration into his creative and poetic world, but from a perspective which allows us to approach his work from an unprecedented angle or viewpoint. It enables him to produce a tectonic piece of work, in the metaphorical sense of the term; that is, to investigate and prove what the founding lines on which his aesthetic reflection are based are, and that explain, by way of a continuous impulse and counterpoint, all of the plastic and poetic attainments, the vital experience itself, of such a unique author.
